Our Executive Director, Erica Chomsky-Adelson, shares this message from the Howlin’ Wolf, where we’re currently preparing and serving thousands of meals from food donated from local restaurants:

Friends-After a full day of working with some of the best restaurants in the city to clean out their coolers before they melted, vans and trucks and cars of chefs pouring into the Howlin’ Wolf with love and support, I finally made it home to my block to watch the sunset with my neighbors. I scraped up some rice and beans for dinner, and ate in the dark with my husband. The thing no one tells you about a hurricane is that you can see the stars afterwards. With our city in the dark, it is paradoxically easier to find the light. The coming days and weeks will be hard. Our beloved city of music, light and laughter is hurting. Our friends and neighbors are scared and tired. Culture Aid NOLA will be here. Our team members on the ground have been working non-stop bringing together the best of the best to serve our community. Together we will continue our work of the last year and a half, serving tens and tens of thousands of meals to our community. It's hard here. We need help. But helping, with love and hospitality is what we do best together.
Thank you from New Orleans,Erica Chomsky-Adelson

OUR IMMEDIATE NEEDS

YOUR SWEAT: We need volunteers every day. Right now, we are receiving food, cooking it as fast as we can, serving it directly to the people. We will be working out of Howlin’ Wolf, 907 S. Peters, from around 8 AM until 6 PM. All volunteers will be home by sundown.

YOU CAN REGISTER FOR A VOLUNTEER SHIFT AT WWW.CULTUREAIDNOLA.ORG/IDAVOLUNTEER

YOUR SUPPLIES: We are coordinating incoming supplies as people slowly return to the city. If you are evacuated and wish to bring supplies, please email [email protected]. The City is currently asking residents NOT to return at this time, so we are encouraging you to purchase items from our Amazon wishlist if possible, and HAVE THEM DELIVERED TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW to bring to us when it is safe to return.

YOUR SUPPORT: Every dollar we raise through our Hurricane Ida Relief Fund goes directly into serving New Orleanians. We will be addressing food insecurity—not only during storm recovery, but long after, through our continued no-barrier free grocery distributions. For fundraisers, foundation support, or grant opportunities, please contact [email protected].

YOUR SHARING: We know what it's like to have to fight for our city. We need all the help we can get. Please continue to like, follow, and share our pages on social media—we are @cultureaidnola on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram—and tell the world why you love New Orleans while sharing our work. For media inquiries, peer-to-peer fundraising opportunities, logos, or other communication needs, please reach out to [email protected] (FYI, I am compiling this while evacuated and trying to keep up with all of the love you guys have shared on social media—my heart may explode soon! I may miss a DM, so please email if it’s urgent.)

Thank you again, from everyone on our team!
